Summary: Very good but not great
Comment: This is my first venture with family tree software, so I have nothing to compare it to. That said. I believe that FamilyTreeMaker needs some enhancing. With the Collector's Edition, I received a year subscription to [...] which is a real money saver. A great feature. I love the search feature on the software so that I can automatically search the web for my ancestors on others' trees. However, during several searches a day the software will get into a loop and not display the results. I will then have to exit out of the program with ctrl-alt-del and restart it. Very annoying.

The map feature to include in one's family history book is worthless. One has a choice of North America, Europe or Asia. It would be better to include larger maps of individual countries and States.

There also needs to be a feature to be able to mark in the pedigree and family views whether a search and/or merge has been performed with respect to a particular ancestor. It would also be nice if there were a choice in the search feature to merge other historian's notes with respect to an ancestor along with the rest of the data.

Despite these draw backs I recommend the software. I give it 4 stars out of five.
