Summary: Thoughtful summary of human evolution
Comment: When selecting this book to read, I was looking for something that summarized the current state of
affairs (scientific) on evolution. I had just read a very interesting article in Newsweek (3/19/07)
on evolution, and was seeking a quick and readable summary of the topic. This book delivered. The
coverage of the topic was up-to-date and thorough, and the pages actually turned pretty fast. />
Please take a look at some of the other reviews for a good description of the book's
contents. For me, the book was exactly what I was looking for.

Summary: Smithsonian Intimate Guide to Huma Origins
Comment: Zimmer, as usual, did a fine job in picking and presenting the current thoughts on how we humans
came to be. While I have read a number of books in this general field, Intimate Guide pulls up
many fine details that clear up some confusion between theories and make for a great read. It is
especially helpful in understanding how hominids originally populated the world and how we fit into
the picture.The excellent photos and illustrations are helpful and compliment the text very well. A
very good choice for anyone who wonders where we came from.

Comment: An excellent and brilliant introductory book for the big puzzle of human origins! The writer
transforms the anthropological and evolutionary literatures into a popular reading. You may witness
milestones of the dispersal of human beings and find it is easier than imagined to discuss the
history of human evolution with your friends and kids. It is worthy to bring it home from a museum
shop and from Amazon.com as well.

Summary: A short but very interesting overview
Comment: "Smithsonian Intimate Guide to Human Origins" is a lively and very readable presentation of
mankind's prehistory. Although it is rather short
and several details of what is known today
about the topic are not
mentioned, you will enjoy reading it and find a lot of new and
fascinating
facts and ideas even if you already own a number of books about the />emergence of humans. The language is clear and avoids unnecessary
technical jargon. The book
is beautifully illustrated with many colour
photographs/pictures and you will go through its
pages with pleasure.
Very useful are the section "Further Reading" and the index at the
end.
In sum, I would recommend the book to the reader who is looking for a
starting
point to the field of human origins as well as to readers
who have already studied a number of
books about human evolution.
