Editorial Reviews: Family historians are constantly confronted with records using nicknames. The researcher who does not know that Patsy was commonly used for Martha, Sandy for Alexander, Peter for Patrick? You may be losing records! This book lists not only nicknames for males and females, but also includes the American equivalent of Dutch/Frisian names, names used for both males and females, and superscripted names.

Summary: useless
Comment: This book has a very limited number of nicknames and misses many of the obvious from the time period. Unfortunately, the author has left no way to submit other nicknames to add to her collection (with sources) which would eventually, actually make this book useful.

Summary: Excellent resource for translating nicknames.
Comment: This handy booklet provides the translation of the most commonly found American nicknames for both males and females into their full given name equivalents. Often, a nickname can stand for more than one first name and many variants are covered.

Included in the appendicies are English to Dutch/Frisian nickname translations, names commonly found truncated or superscripted, and names which can be either male or female.

An excellent reference from one of the giants in genealogy.
