Summary: This is to counteract the poor rating Amira gave this book.
Comment: Amira should kindly recall this book is about POLISH history! One star was an irresponsible attack
merely because of a faulty definition. Still angry over the Battle of Vienna perhaps? Please take
care next time not to trash an entire work because of one mistake.

Summary: Outstanding introduction to Polish history
Comment: I read this book before my first trip to Poland recently because I wanted to know a thing or two
about Polish history before 1939. It contains about a thousand years of detailed history written in
a way that captivates the reader and makes the book hard to put down. I did notice a bit of a
tendency to exagerrate Poland's importance in the scheme of European politics and history, but it
was not overbearing and did not negate the many excellent qualities of the book. Obviously it's
impossible to sqeeze a lot of detail into one volume covering a period of a thousand years, but this
book does very good job of balancing its broad overview with the need for sufficient detail about
the people, places, and events it covers. I found it to be a fascinating and enlightening
introduction to Polish history and I highly recommend it to anyone with an interest in this subject.

Summary: Long Live Poland!
Comment: As a proud Polish-American I wanted to do something to celebrate Polish-American Heritage Month,
which is every October, and this year I delved into "The Polish Way" by Adam Zamoyski. And I was so
happy to do it! Zamoyski captures Poland's rich history as a repository for Eastern European
culture, beginning with the years before the Renaissance and concluding with the late 20th century .
The author does a laudable job at describing Poland's magnificent tapestry of rulers, diplomats,
military leaders, artists, and authors; I felt he could have done more to illustrate the prominence
of the Roman Catholic Church in the country's history. He did, however, fully articulate the proud
past Poland can boast of religious tolerance, which was the primary reason why before Hitler there
was such a large concentration of Jewish people in the homeland of my ancestors.

I
would recommend "God's Playground" by Norman Davies for a more comprehensive history of Poland, but
for those who want a general overview from a scholar who truly displays his expertise, "The Polish
Way" is the best way.

Summary: Dissapointing
Comment: Polish history is disribed well enough by Norman Davies not to read such books. It's maybe good for
people not knowing where Poland actually is situated and not willing to learn much more than that.
