Well worth the buy
Comment:
We pretty much had our names picked out before I bought this book and it just re-affirmed our
choices. What is intersting and helpful about this book is the way the author provides a "snap shot"
of a name including popularity, style, varriants, and brother/sister name suggestions that go along.
The author also explains naming trends wich explains why when a name is picked and thought to be
unique it isn't... The one drawback about this book was that a couple of the names I was interested
in looking up were not referenced on their own. One was listed only as a nickname which I don't
believe it to be, and the other was only listed as a suggested brother/sister name to other names.
That was surprising and a bit disapointing...

Unusual and helpful baby name book
Comment:
This was one of the most useful and interesting baby naming books I've read! Some of the
highlights: It shows a small graph for each name showing its popularity over the last century. It
also tells you what year it was most popular and how it ranked that year. For each name it gives
suggestions for sisters/brothers, which I found helpful because you can see what other names people
group with the name you chose. In the back, my favorite part, it gives categories of types of names
(guys and dolls, nicknames, last names first, old-fashioned, classic, etc) and gives a list of names
that fit in that category. You can look up your favorite name in the front, find out what 'family'
it belongs in, then flip to the back and look in that 'family' category to find other names you'll
probably like. We found a group of names that we always dislike but could never figure out why -
now we know! Plus, our favorite names ended up on in a list of other names we gravitate toward and
some new ones we found. It doesn't give meaning or pronunciation.
This book does what
no other naming book has done. It's a baby naming must-have.

the BEST baby name book out there
Comment:
I wasn't going to get this book at first because I thought it was a new-aged type book. I thought
it was going to involve crystals, horoscopes ... not that there is anything wrong with that. But it
just isn't for me. LOL, I guess I was far off. This is the BEST baby name book out there and has
nothing to do with new-age. It has provided hours of fun for hubby and me. Although it has a lot
of names, we still haven't found the name, and it feels like this book may be more limited then we
need, and that's why it gets 4 instead of 5 stars.

good name reference
Comment:
Great frequency curves on how common names are. Good organization of names into manageable
categories. It may have fewer names than those 75000 name books, but since many names are simply
variations of a theme, that's actually good. Definitely recommended. We are first time parents.

Best baby name book ever and
Comment:
a fun read about names. It goes into much more detail than the books that just list names. If you
are just looking for a name list look elsewhere.
