Discover how a few brave patriots battled a great empire. Be an eyewitness to the thrilling American war for independence: the battles and leaders, soldiers and heroes, scoundrels and patriots. It's all here in this ultimate visual guide that show you how it really was. See a continental solder's musket, a spy's hollow "silver bullet", Washington's sword, a bullet-riddled battle flag, the Liberty Bell, the Declaration of Independence. Learn why Washington was commander-in-chief, how the Declaration of Independence was written, how Benedict Arnold was at first a patriot hero, how solders were drilled, who the Loyalists were, how France helped win American liberty. Discover how Betsy Ross sewed the Stars and Stripes, the secrets of spies and traitors, why it was Breed's not Bunker Hill, why King George admired Washington, why Yorktown was not the end of the Revolution, and much, much more.

Customer Rating: Summary: Building a library for a granddaughterComment: I bought this for my 12-year old granddaughter as part of an effort to build a meaningful library for her -- I was appalled that the school hadn't even begun to teach her basic American history. She read it through, so I guess that the effort was worthwhile.Customer Rating: Summary: Another quality DK bookComment: As always, loaded with photos and illustration. There are some maps and a timeline, a glossary and a Find Out More" section with some web sites and places to visit. My boys love the DK books. I good overview on the subject, but I would definitely combine it with other books/materials to cover the war in more depth.
Customer Rating: Summary: Great for young folks, good for adultsComment: The books are very well done, pictures and timelines inclusive but are targetting younger readers. As an adult I must admit MOST of the content were things I did not know but thats more of a review of our schools than this book.
For your 10-12 year old age group they are the best. For adults they are interesting and beautifully pictured but brief. Im glad I bought them but I wish my expectations had been set as to how short they are.Customer Rating: Summary: 1765-1783=AMERICAN REVOLUTIONComment: THIS WAS THE GREATEST BOOK I EVER READ AND THE PICTURES
WERE SO INTERESTING AND I LOVE HISTORY FROM 4.5 BILLION B.C-
2005 A.D. DK BOOKS ARE THE BEST
[...]Customer Rating: Summary: Taxation Without RepreseentationComment: The book is non fiction. The plot is that the British are doing taxation without representation in the 1700s.
My favorite things in the book are some of the battles it tells about, like the Battle of Long Island. I also like the book because of all the facts it has and all the information. The flag illustrations are cool too.
I highly recommend this book for people who like facts and are above age 8.
