Summary: Intelligent
Comment: Insightful. Deep. Witty. Three words that accurately describe the thoughts, sayings, and quotes in
this charming book about life, love, and relationships that span time. Highly recommended to read
and think about.

Summary: Lead, follow, plagiarize
Comment: I received this book as a gift and I'm still trying to process the implications of that. On some
level, you have to be impressed by anyone with the arrogance to include personal quotations (on page
one, no less) amongst those he considers to be the most brilliant in written history. Respect
however, is an entirely separate consideration. The book would have been more aptly titled, "My
Favorite Thoughts of All Time in Two Lines or Less" but then of course, the prospective purchaser is
prompted to make a value judgment as to whether or not they care about Mr. Shanahan's choices. Same
thing applies here, it's just less of a conscious consideration.

In any event, the book is an
effective conversation piece although I have serious reservations about using any quotations without
prior knowledge of context. It is quite conceivable you will be perceived as a dilettante, and if
you are truly honest with yourself, potentially a fraud. If you cannot be well-read, I suppose
faking it is the next best thing. On the plus side, the CD is an effective cure for insomnia.

At
the risk of self-fulfilled prophesy, Mr. Shanahan's opening salvo from Edith Wharton says it best:
"There are two ways of spreading light: to be the candle or the mirror that reflects it." I'm
reasonably certain he and I hold contrasting interpretations of her inference.

Summary: A MUST FOR ANY PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT LIBRARY!!!
Comment: As an author I'm always on the lookout for good books to stimulate the mind. I also want to buy
books that keep the Godlike side of me guided in separating the issues of right & wrong, responsible
vs. reckless, good vs. evil, kind vs. mean and the like.

This book, along with the bonus CD, makes
a wonderful addition to any personal development library. It is full of wisdom from the ages and
also includes a lot of colorful cultural proverbs which I used often in writing my relationship
book.

Anyone who has a problem with this book is precisely the kind of person who needs it the
most.

Enlightened people will see the immense value in this book immediately.

The CD also adds
tremendous value to the purchase of this book.

Summary: A book that should be added to your reference aresenal!
Comment: This book is a must have for any writer or publisher. Shanahan's arrangement of content makes it a
reference tool for any writer that needs quick antecdotes from brilliance to witty. It resides on my
book shelf between ROGETS Thesaurus and Webster's Dictionary.
